Striped Side Table

November 4, 2014 By: Leslie2 Comments

So….it’s been a while!!  But, that doesn’t mean I haven’t been busy.  I’ve actually done more projects than normal, but I’ve really just been focusing on doing what I feel like doing.  So, that meant more painting, projects, relaxing and less computer/blogging time.  But now I’m refreshed and excited to share one of my recent projects with you.

My Mom actually found this side table at a yard sale for me.  It was rough looking, but sturdy.

I hand sanded the rough spots, and then got to work painting.  I used Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Paris Grey…..excuse the poor lighting in my basement work area.  I’m grateful for the space to work, but it certainly has bad lighting!

I had originally intended on covering the Paris Grey totally with Pure White, but I liked the look of the grey so I decided to add white stripes instead.  I used Frog Tape and taped off stripes.

I used the Pure White and painted two coats between the tape.  I pulled the tape off while it was still wet from the second coat and I got nice, crisp lines.

I took the table outside and sanded it just a bit by hand to distress some of the edges.  After I cleaned it from sanding, I applied a coat of clear wax.

I’ll admit I wasn’t sure about this piece in the beginning, especially when my Mom was texting a picture of it from the yard sale, but it was a good deal and worth trying to make it pretty.  It just shows a little elbow grease and some paint can really make a difference.

I can think of many uses for a side table like this with its three shelves.  How would you use it?
